About the Study Abroad Program
This journey abroad program to Ghana is an opportunity for student-scholars to gain a contextual understanding of Art, Social Justice, and Identity in Ghana by engaging with Ghanaian history, culture, and local community organizations. We will visit both rural and urban areas of the country and engage with individuals and communities, gaining a more holistic understanding of the nation and the richness of its cultural identity expressed through music, art, and other traditions. Through visits to historical sites and participating in immersive cultural experiences, we'll reflect on the global impact of the country’s history, particularly through the lens of the diaspora and how it impacts identity both inside and outside Ghanaian borders. Local engagements with Ghanaian social work organizations will offer us the opportunity to learn about the key social challenges in Ghanaian communities and the African-based solutions developed to address them.
